Lake Tuggeranong (May 2019)

Mother’s Day Weekend 2019 – Day One

We arrived in the late afternoon via the coast road down from Sydney – Wollongong, Kiama, Nowra and the outskirts of Bateman’s Bay before turning inland to Braidwood, Bungendore and into the Australian Capital Territory – checked into our AirBNB apartment, and went out to stretch the legs. We were just in time to witness a spectacular sunset over Lake Tuggeranong.

Tuggeranong is – one of eighteen original districts of the Australian Capital Territory, located to the south of our country’s capital city, Canberra, and means “cold place” in the language of the local Aboriginal tribe, the Ngunnawal people – a word that is rather apt for the winter months here.

Lake Tuggeranong itself was created in 1987 thanks to the building of a a dam on a tributary of the iconic Murrumbidgee River.
