Blue Mountains Ruined Castle Walk (August 2017)

Stand at the iconic Echo Point lookout at Katoomba. Look to your left: there’s the Three Sisters. Look straight ahead: you can’t miss the imposing Mt Solitary. Look just to the right of Mt Solitary: down the ridge, you can make out the jumble of rocks rising from the tree-lined ridge. That’s the Ruined Castle, a spectacular location for 360-degree views of the Jamison Valley in the Blue Mountains.

About 14km (return) from the bottom of the Scenic Railway – or less if you come down the Golden Staircase from Narrowneck – it’s one of the most popular day walks in the Blue Mountains, and one that boasts some of the best views you’re likely to find anywhere in Australia. Especially when the weather is as good as it was last Saturday when ten of us headed out there.

You can see where the landslide came from.

I love how the National Parks people need to note that the Ruined Castle is actually a natural rock formation.
IMG_9505
The last 600m is literally straight up…
IMG_9506
…but the views are worth it.
