As the old saying goes, it’s not what you know but who you know, and a few years ago, I was lucky enough to connect with Nate Morton, a pro drummer who is now part of the ass-kicking house band on The Voice in America – a total TV juggernaut over there. And one that doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, either.
When I was in Los Angeles with Nathan, Lauryn and Trev three years ago, everyone’s schedule worked out so that we were able to get to a rehearsal midway through that season’s run – I think they were down to the final sixteen or something, but don’t hold me to that! I distinctly remember the incredible sound quality in the studio, not to mention the quality of the remaining contestants.
Anyway, Nate, who is a good drummer but an even better person, hooked us up with the VIP credentials, and we got to watch from behind where the band play, from the host’s podium and where the audience normally sit. Pretty amazing!
