Talbingo (January 2023)

After a year’s delay due to inclement forecast weather last Australia Day, we finally made it to Talbingo, a tiny town in a spectacular spot, sitting on the Tumut River where it becomes the Jounama Pondage on the “other side” of the Snowy Mountains from Cooma, Jindabyne and Thredbo etc. – a part of the high country that I haven’t seen much of.

We stayed at the Talbingo Caravan Park, which has camping site (powered and unpowered) plus cabins and even a few apartment-style buildings. The place basically full for the Australia Day Weekend, but despite that, there was plenty of space on the sites. A lot of people use Talbingo as their base for boating on the Jounama Pondage and Talbingo Reservior, and it was amazing to see all the camp sites along the road between Tumut and Talbingo absolutely teeming with people.
