We stayed in a wonderful Airbnb house on a farm near Williamsdale (right on the southern edge of the Australian Capital Territory, about 45 minutes from the middle of Canberra) on AFL Grand Final weekend and whilst the game didn’t go to plan, we had an amazing time living on the sprawling property, just off the Monaro Highway.
Hard to find fault with the property. Big and very comfortable, on a gorgeous bit of land, and close to the places we wanted to go, and plenty to explore on the farm itself, with plenty of sign-posted walks – look out for the hard-to-miss yellow toilet up near the lake.
This farmstay isn’t close to Canberra’s attractions, but if you’re after the Namadgi National Park or Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and don’t mind the countryside, this is a great spot. It was muddy – but that’s pretty much everywhere on the east coast of Australia after this winter of torrential rain, right?) The added bonus of watching the alpacas get shorn on Saturday morning was fun! The only thing I could say in the negative was getting swooped by a magpie on Monday morning whilst I was out walking. An experience I could definitely have done without.
