America 2024 – Day Twenty-One

We are graffiti on a subway train
Two hands shape of a heart
Lyrics on a Coca-Cola classic can
Promises whispered in the dark
We are Hemingway in a dive bar
I love you in a dead language
Progress running through the telephone wires
Sneakers hanging by the laces

We are the back roads dirty water soul banks
From the city to the country doing our thing, our way
We say things that I was gonna say
Freedom of our age, we are born and raised on American Slang
Born and raised on American Slang.

Wednesday 29 May 2024

Woke up a little dusty in the morning. A few waters and a walk in the sunshine did wonders.

Quiet day for the most part. Feels like the first day in a week – since we picked Elias up from the airport last Wednesday evening – that I’ve had a chance to relax a bit. This is a vacation, after all. Doesn’t have to all happen at a hundred miles an an hour. Besides, another big weekend at the track (in Detroit) is coming up pretty quickly, anyway.

Ticked another Wheaton-area destination from the Bucket List today. The Morton Arboretum has miles and miles of tracks to explore. Some concrete paths loop around the lake and the visitor’s centre, and others go further afield. Parts of it reminded be of being in Canberra. Not just because of the trees, but due to the fact that the arboretum here is also alongside a major road. Walked just over 6km in a big loop after lunch.

Ate leftover Giordano’s deep dish pizza from Monday night, caught up on some reading and watched a movie before bed. Low-key but good day. Another quiet one on tap for Thursday, before we head up to Detroit on Friday morning.
