We were “Jesus save me”, blue jean baby
Born in the USA
Trailer park truck stop, faded little map dots
New York to LA
We were teenage dreamin’, front seat leanin’
Baby, come give me a kiss
Put me on the cover of the Rollin’ Stone
Uptown down home American kids
Growin’ up in little pink houses
Makin’ out on living room couches
Blowin’ that smoke on a Saturday night
A little messed up, but we’re all alright.

A short blog today as it was a quiet one. Still not okay with leaving Boise: the city itself and the awesome people I know here. But what can you do?
Super-early start. We got to Boise airport before the Southwest counter was open, so we waited around a little, yawning as we stood in a line with other early-risers, before we could check-in. The smaller the American airport, the better the experience, if you ask me. This one was a breeze. Thankfully there was no need to take laptops and iPads out of backpacks, which is a real winner. All you need to worry about aside from that is losing the jacket and shoes.
We flew Boise to Las Vegas (a bit under ninety minutes) and had a layover of about an hour before the onward flight to Austin Texas, which took about two hours. It was just as well we got into the Texas state capital when we did, as a huge storm hit about half an hour after our arrival. It didn’t rain for too long, but man, when it rained, it really rained. And the humidity felt like it was about 9000%. Welcome to the Lone Star State.
Our Airbnb is near the University of Texas campus, and was once used by the owners’ kids when they attended school here. UT is most famous for it’s football program, which has more wins than just about any other program in college football, and a bunch of National Championships, too. This is a place where coaches either win immediately or get fired.
Dinner at Torchy’s, a taco chain that started out with one food truck in 2006 here in Austin, and now boasts nearly 200 locations across the country, mostly, it must be said, in Texas. Really amazing tacos served in more of a flour tortilla than the hard taco shell, which is an absolute win. The hard thing was choosing just a few.
Whilst we’ll be at the track Saturday and Sunday – in shaded parts of it, if the weather forecast is anything to go by – we have a free day tomorrow, so we’re going to head over to Lake Travis, about thirty minutes from where we are staying, and do some zip-lining. The Lake Travis Zip Line Adventures boast the longest and fastest zip in Texas. Can’t wait!
