Over on the “other side” of the Snowy Mountains is the small town of Talbingo. Sitting alongside the Jounama Pondage, near Tumut 3 power station and about half an hour from Tumut and Blowering Dam, the current town replaced the original Talbingo which, like Adaminaby and Jindabyne, was moved as part of operations on the Snowy River Scheme. Indeed, Tumut 3 power station is a few kilometers up the road from the quiet town, ringed by spectacular mountains.
Featuring a picturesque caravan park where we stayed, excellent Chinese restaurant inside the country club, a general store selling basic stuff and the last chance on the Snowy Mountains Highway to get petrol before Cooma, Talbingo is a good base for exploring the northern side of the Kosciuszko National Park.
Below are a few shots from around the town.
