Historic Yarrangobilly Village & Thermal Pool

A short drive up the hill from Talbingo on the Snowy Mountains Highway is the historic Yarrangobilly Village, where the Yarrangobilly River crosses the highway. The campground is home to Cotterill’s Cottage, which lays claim to being the oldest building in Kosciuszko National Park.

Further along the Snowy Mountains Highway – about twenty kilometers, in fact, the last few on a winding dirt road – is Yarrangobilly Caves and the famous thermal pool, which is a pleasant and refreshing 27.0 degrees Celsius no matter the time of year you happen to be visiting. Sitting alongside the Yarrangobilly River, there are few more spectacular places to take a dip, although I imagine the quick walk from the change room down to the pool and then back up afterward would be quite brisk during the cooler months. As a bonus: the Yarrangobilly area is a popular spot for local wildlife, too.
